More About Incoming - The Anthology

We are pleased to say we are now accepting pitches for our first Incoming anthology.

The title of the anthology is 'Peripheral Visions' and theme is worlds within worlds. Think Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, China Mieville's Un Lun Dun or Charles L. Grant's Tales of the Nightside. We're looking for stories set in the worlds found at the edge of our own, of images flickering in the corner of their eye.

The anthology will be 40 pages of full colour or black and white strip. Stories can range from two pages to five pages. We're looking for all ages material. The great thing about the theme is that your 'hidden world' can be any genre - horror, SF, fantasy. We may even accept superheroes, but to be honest, I'd rather not.

The only other rule is that all contributors must be members of the Incoming community.

The first step is to submit an idea and synopsis along with links to your work. It would also be good to know how many pages you see your story taking.

Please submit them to frankjackdaw@aol.com before the deadline of August 9th.

After that we'll green light the chosen strips for completion by early September.
The issue will be published on www.myebook.com, via www.lulu.com and possibly have a small print run of about 500 for sales via Smallzone and via contributors.
There's not much money in it right now, but any profits will be shared equally among each issue's contributors and eventually we aim to collect all the best stories into a deluxe printed book with royalties paid to all contributors.

Can't wait to see what you come up with.

I apologise for the lack of movement on this guys...
my whole reason for taking up the baton was to see if there was life in the idea... and I still believe there is.
Unfortunately real life/real work/other artistic endevours have conspired to force me to push INCOMING to the back of my schedule.
On the positive though... we are getting to a position where a decent amount of material has certainly been promised... so keep the ideas rolling.

Umm, it's now September 25th. Just wondering what, if anything, is happening with this anthology. I mean, I'd love to see the thing in print or even on screen, but what's the current state of play? Just asking...

Sorry for the ommission James... unintentional I promise. Both of your pieces were 8 pages and I should have emailed you personally to make sure you had picked up the revised maximum page count. Please bear with me. This is a project for exactly you.
A discussion forum is the idea I had too, Adam, and I think like you this has still got legs.
It was a bad time for me due to the school hols... and I think the deadlines generally were very short... however, onward and upward...

Maybe set up a discussion forum listing who has sent stuff for this, just to keep tabs.
James Burns Comment by James Burns on August 9, 2009 at 11:00pm
Hey... I submitted stuff, too.

Should I bear with you, or not?

Sure will Mal. I will be pencilling them soon as I finish the eight pager for Futurequake I have on the table... hopefully sometime next weekend. I'm sure something will come about. Maybe people have other stuff on their plate. I have myself this eight pager and another eight pager for Insomnia 'Survival' and one planned for next year for another publisher (secret), as well as the CONWAY GN for Insomnia. Though I like to keep busy ;) And you can't beat a good short story - as I have other written that are being drawn by other artists atm too. ;)

Steve, Simon, Des, Adam, Paul and Tim...
bear with me chaps...
there is a need to regroup and rethink, but...
in the words of a particular favourite movie of mine...
'don't write off the goose til you see the box go into the hole'...
keep those pages handy... and submit as before boys :)
I wanna see them...

That doesn't sound good then -- and I've just spent all day pencilling my pages :(

I'll put them in my draw of great masterpieces that are doomed never to see the light of day.

Hiyah Adam...
actually loved the script... but really was looking for breakdowns/layouts - however rough at this point.
That said, however...
many thanks to the five guys who have shown interest in producing work for the anthology thus far - but I really don't think five is gonna make it...
I can only wonder why our other 30+ members haven't shown interest in submitting...
as I've said before - back in the day, a nice place to promote your wares was always a missing link in the journey from small presser to professional illustrator... so I would have thought this project would have inspired a bit more interest.
I'll be starting a thread on the SMALLZONE soon to look into what people were, or not turned on by with regard to INCOMING and hopefully we can come up with a new direction and more interest in the near future...
watch this space.
